It's not that I haven't been doing anything. I've had quite alot happen since that last post. Not all of it was anything that I wanted to post about (obviously). But, today is a new month and since the last post, a new year!
Here's someone new in my life: Mr. Charlie, I adopted him from the animal shelter last fall as a puppy. He's a little over a year old now and still as active as he was in his puppiness! He's given me new energy and lots of happiness...

I'd settled in for my pre-work nap this afternoon with only a few snowflakes flying around. When I awoke, there was much more than the forecasted 3 inches of snow. It looked like a blizzard...which in fact it was!!! I think the official snow fall amount was 14 inches. Well, I had at least a 3 foot drift in my driveway. Lots of shovelling done over the next couple of days.Suzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7920986240498531069.post-61759927642499841582010-10-06T04:47:00.004-05:002010-10-06T05:10:25.063-05:00Evening with Joan<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRvD9DG4fQIVkLgxTuSJZak8-rCORRIi2XtoCcmTuR11SLwcnfCTnv3njr9CuzIxcNnenMR8UqI97IxjP3fKDOq_zeaI9rrtWhQBrtE4b8CLswPV4ZTzXFx2QTBu2iRJ0PWeXVvqIdeIU/s200/JBPub2003big.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5524870069274775154" />This evening I will be joining friends to listen to an icon of American folk music...Joan Baez. I never imagined that I would be so fortunate! The show will be at a lovely venue, The Englert Theatre, here in Iowa City. The Englert Theatre's renovation has had an amazing effect on the quality of talent that has performed in Iowa City in recent years. I'm so excited!

Here's a link to this event and other upcoming events at the Englert. The Englert Theatre, Iowa City, IowaSuzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7920986240498531069.post-39937218391945713122010-03-02T09:47:00.009-06:002010-03-12T13:38:08.129-06:00Background NotesMany people play an important part in my life. Although they may not be people with whom I have daily contact, they are the background music to my existence. This weekend I lost one of those lovely notes, Donna Hoaglan. Her absence leaves a hole in my heart. Even though her sweet sound may not be physically here...I will always remember her and her tone resonates through me and all of those that love her.Suzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7920986240498531069.post-49761550367057552442010-01-30T05:35:00.004-06:002010-01-30T05:51:26.949-06:00Dark Days of WinterSo, winter started off as a really snowy season this year. December brought many snowflakes. Here's a picture of what my back yard looked like in the depths of the snow. Much of it has since melted off after a period of rain/sleet/ice and slightly warmer days. To tell you the truth, I like the fresh snow better than what's currently out there. The temperature has also been drifting back toward the zero mark this week. But, more snow is predicted for Monday (that also means it will be up in the 20's)...I'm hoping for at least a couple of inches to cover up the dirty views that are now all around.Suzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7920986240498531069.post-63527268432408257652009-07-05T13:33:00.003-05:002009-07-05T13:40:36.718-05:00Waxing Moon<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 138px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtSVEZg319VCTVwK_zfYQCBpJRsmuk0etZFUZ2HPI7WMOlm6JbrTpmjXcU5WbgKo3HqlHO-n_eEhE-d7kiA0ol02Q7unFs1PJ7kzSthKVBq8T4uPLRvWrG3gw-Pv12TC27OihrZ1jaidk/s200/DSC00730.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355047287512402946" />After the fireworks I headed home to check on my dog, Zeb. He wasn't too happy with the firecrackers and other small explosions around the neighborhood. I let him out and was stuck by the brightness of the moon. After being so cloudy earlier in the day, it was a clear, cool night. Here's the waxing moon on July 4th, it'll be a big full moon in a few days (July 7th).Suzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7920986240498531069.post-17198617407124115352009-07-05T12:23:00.006-05:002009-07-05T13:42:09.600-05:004th of July Celebration with Friends<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOzUfoI98EbjCyus5xkrtUJUWaVu-2yTuQe16105mkH8WQkOFFJc4s1vbBjeUTFUa5KnhCFZzwSoioQ3bUBgBbS_ZEDx8pXKDwcZSa9nBvcXf__G4LekfKo9G3UN45vELxbh9X8Ln24UA/s320/DSC00740.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355035803297021506" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 290px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTCXlNh86kUjR0fuBksVNcaX8tpJIkqUnsJ2eFJ5Uhln6zx-p7jlyizT6Z1odiHaWONZCnvK67qqQe_L61CA9T1CiMLRUl1JD5lZ6-kgz4epzkmDzJ6DKb-glC9cfnOKPWpK-9RxYbW9Q/s320/DSC00712.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355035797308231138" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 311px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvOQ8MdDsk7vXOfF0YUAFVg8WG91oJ10-RlgsNcPXOwK_mFUDZYmJj4pNgU7-ErO1N2OTxoPKhvf7fD2MxUhf_2rpA12gxN0RK6AOl_pEa-YiCl1jnV9lyL992PMfdwVbIl8emepYuWyk/s320/DSC00723.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355031346370556306" /></a

The day started out cloudy and rainy. Not any massive thunder storms, just a consistent rainfall. I was wondering if it would clear up in time for the much anticipated trip to Sonic to watch fireworks with my good friends Cris and Paul.

I spent the majority of the day just lounging and not doing anything constructive. I checked my e-mail and played on the computer while watching a show on the History channel about the Revolutionary War and creation of our country. It's amazing that the United States actually came into existence. There were so many obstacles in the way of the birth of our nation...including the lack of cooperation between the individual states.

By early evening the sky had cleared and it looked good for seeing the display. I was able capture a few photos of the festivities. I was only using a small digital camera, but, was able to get a few decent pictures of the explosives!

Happy Birthday, America...and here's to another 233 years!!!Suzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7920986240498531069.post-22150361646875579402009-06-19T21:13:00.004-05:002009-06-19T21:29:31.941-05:00Happy Father's Day

Here's to having a great weekend for all those fathers out there. I had a great time helping my friend, Cris, sell her silver jewelry. She has been making lovely pieces for several years. Through Cris I've met many fun, creative people: Cindi, Julie, Melissa, Jan, Rebecca and Jeannie to name a few. Cindi owns the bead store and has featured local artists by hosting frequent open houses and trunk shows. The boys, Paul and Rick, joined us later for supper at a local pizza restaurant. Maybe it was that really high fever that I was running, or maybe I have allot on my mind these days.
So, yesterday I was dreaming about being on railroad tracks. I have no idea why I was there and it seemed like someone else was there with me. The next thing I know there is a train barrelling down the tracks straight toward me. In the dream I was paralyzed. I could not move, even though I knew that I had to or the train was going to plow right into me. I kept yelling at myself "move, Suzi". Then, as dreams will do, the scene morphed from a flat railroad track into a track running on a bridge. It didn't seem very high, but to get off the tracks I was going to have to jump. I still couldn't move...I couldn't figure out how far I'd fall and I couldn't figure out how to crawl under the tracks to safety. All the while the train is coming closer and closer. It had even started blowing it's horn. Finally, at the last second, I must have jumped. The train was rumbling overhead and I was clinging to the beams under the track. It was at this point I awoke...it was like a scene out of an old western movie.
I suppose that there is some significance of trains in dream analysis. Maybe I'm afraid of being derailed in my current life. The real question is by what or whom??? Or, maybe I need to be able to "jump" into something that I've been afraid to start, but feel paralyzed to change. Could be a combo of the two...or neither. Maybe, I'll "google" dream analysis and trains!Suzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7920986240498531069.post-62270728154704282112009-02-21T16:22:00.007-06:002009-02-21T16:36:01.859-06:00Longing to be somewhere warm today.....<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 160px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI0v1fIwYumsJQaLBsAwaJ9mp6ojbltTy2F2kpy6hMl0uChL512DiF2DVZoO81w1Qcvlv75mogb5snJ9Ng4Q4Vb4nMLVlD678zeWEyGlhyJHtA2lN-Xb-g12A7T277zvRT_ZpdrUOrvzc/s200/palm+beach+cropped+8x10.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5305382795333811314" />
Oh, to be sitting on this beach in Maui when there's snow falling at home. I'm trying to decide if this is a good choice or not. I currently find myself up at 3:00 in the morning on my day off...having slept the afternoon and evening away. I've been watching tv, surfing the internet, and not really doing anything productive. It does get hard to turn my schedule around on the weekends. But, that brings me to one of the benefits of this shift, I work Sunday through Thursday, which means I have every weekend off. That's something that most nurses can't say and would envy! I also get a significant shift differential, and have noticed a nice increase in my paycheck. I don't have to put up with much of the "politics" of the workplace. I could come up with several other benefits...but, sleep, that's the problem! Do I keep the same sleep hours on my days off...maintain the sleep during the day/up at night schedule, or change my days back to "normal" on my days off??? I've tried both and can't seem to decide. I really can't sleep all day on the weekends...or I wouldn't have any time to spend with friends and family. But, I seem to lose Fridays by sleeping much of the day hours away and go to bed that night to be up on Saturday morning. Hmmmm, that's the quandry...Suzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7920986240498531069.post-11344689687280415702009-01-21T15:52:00.000-06:002009-01-21T17:27:06.380-06:00View from Space<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 165px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL_6qtxTcZz6uIW1kvl3S7PCFNV9m7LqdbOMWyE_egMnvwI0sTkgKRKNlGbOfdySxAtd0tUdpKs9hYmWO1Qglso2ogq8MSgYNAjwaATS7XJqV59sSmgI2mReUBeKESGSoT6j2gVOyYzHs/s320/geoeye-capitol.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293891350238945906" />
Here is a satellite view of President Obama's inauguration from GeoEye.com.

Impressive.

I don't know the final count of those that attended. Some people in my life are what I think of as "casual" friends. That does not mean that they don't have an important place in my life, but they may not "always" be part of it. They are the co-workers, the acquaintances, the neighbors, etc. that we call "friends". These people are the ones that I might do superficial things with: going out to lunch, to the movies, out on the town, to the gym, on a bike ride, or meet for a beer to watch the game. They are there to help me have fun and enjoy life. They usually don't require much effort or maintenance.

Then there is that special group of individuals, the lifelong friends, that make up the canvass of my life...actually they are more importantly the paint on the canvass of my life. I do the same fun things with this group. But, I also comfort them when they lose a loved one, encourage them in times of trouble, cheer them on with each success and turn to them in times of need. They may not be with me every day. But, I can't imagine a time when they won't be here with and for me. These are the members of my family that I have chosen for myself.

So why then does it often seem easier for me to tell my "casual" friends that I appreciate them, respect them and enjoy their company than my lifelong friends. I started this out by thinking about how friendships change. Now that I've pondered this topic a bit, it occurs to me that some of my dearest friends started out in that "casual" category. I really should get back to telling them how much I value them in my life....Suzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14503195217688854964noreply@blogger.com0
